Anxiety Disorder

What is GAD?

The experience of constant and excessive worry about trivial, everyday issues. This occurs to the point where normal functioning is interfered.

People suffering from GAD may experience an inability to concentrate and indecisiveness. This chronic anxiety also manifests in unpleasant physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, irritability, lightheadedness, and feeling out of breath.

GAD develops gradually and usually occurs during the young adulthood stage.

How you can support friends and family members with GAD

1. Understand anxiety - educate yourself on the nature of the condition they are going through

2. Share resources - Assist them in discovering tips or insights helpful for alleviating their anxiety

3. Lend a listening ear - encourage your friend to talk about their worries and anxieties in a safe, non-judgemental place

4. Engage in relaxing activities together - Sign up for group yoga, meditation classes, exercise etc...

5. Accompany them to seek treatment - This is some way to show them your support regardless of the stigma attached to people with GAD
